BJP dharna resents atrocities on Dalits

PATNA: The Patna Mahanagar unit of the BJP staged a daylong dharna near the Income-tax roundabout here on Monday in protest against the recent rape of a Dalit woman and the killing of a Dalit youth, Om Prakash Paswan, in the Rukunpura locality.

While addressing the dharna, state BJP chief Gopal Narayan Singh called upon the people to fight out the anti-Dalit Rabri regime. He said that his party would launch a powerful movement against the Rabri regime. He demanded an independent probe into the aforementioned incidents of rape and killing. Former state BJP chief Nand Kishore Yadav said that crime against Dalits had increased during the present regime. Others who addressed the dharna included BJP's chief whip in the state assembly Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha.

Meanwhile, a central committee member of the CPI(ML), K D Yadav, gave a 15-day ultimatum to the state government to take action against the "RJD goons" and police inspector who were allegedly responsible for the atrocities perpetrated on the Dalit woman of Mahuabag in Rukunpura.
