Dalit leaders demand transfer of top govt officials

Gopeshwar (Uttaranchal), Nov 8 : Cutting across party lines, Dalit leaders have jointly demanded the immediate transfer of two top officials in the Uttaranchal Secretariat for their alleged anti-Dalit policies.

Adressing a joint meeting of Dalit communities in Nandprayag yesterday, they alleged that Principal Secretary N S Napchiyal and Additional Secretary Surendra Singh Rawat, both from the Appointment and Personnel Department, were "conspiring against the Dalits" with the connivance of other government officials.

Alleging that Rawat had made "anti-Scheduled caste statements" in public, the leaders sought Chief Minister N D Tiwari's intervention on the issue.
